Woman Accused of Blocking Denny's Entrance and Forcefully Resisting Arrest

A 55-year-old Bedford woman was booked into the Lawrence County Jail Sunday afternoon after police say she blocked customer traffic at a local restaurant and forcefully fought officers trying to move her out of the roadway.

Racquel L. Hudson was arrested on Sunday, August 2, 2026, by the Bedford Police Department.

Disturbance at Denny's

At approximately 12:20 p.m., Bedford police officers were dispatched to the Denny's restaurant on a report of a male and female standing in the parking lot entrance, physically blocking vehicles and refusing to let customers leave. Restaurant staff reported that they had repeatedly asked the pair to clear the driveway, but they refused, with Hudson reportedly cursing out the manager.

Upon arrival, Sergeant Toby Gerkin observed Hudson standing directly in the entrance of the restaurant, actively preventing a vehicle from pulling out. Investigating officers noted that this marked the third separate call involving Hudson acting erratically that same day.

Forceful Resistance

Sgt. Gerkin activated emergency lights and instructed Hudson to clear the roadway so traffic could pass. When she refused, officers placed her in handcuffs to physically relocate her to the sidewalk and clear the drive.

As officers attempted to move her, Hudson began forcefully pulling away and refused to walk. She was eventually escorted to a patrol car and secured inside. An unknown male who was initially seen blocking traffic with her briefly returned to the area, told officers he had only stopped to check on Hudson, and was released after refusing to cooperate or provide identification.

Jail Booking

Hudson was transported to the Lawrence County Jail. Transporting officers noted that upon arrival at the security center, Hudson remained completely uncooperative and had to be forcefully pulled into the booking facility by staff.

Preliminary Charges:

πŸ”Ή Obstruction of Traffic (Class B Misdemeanor)
